Project Vintage Gem – The Reveal Part 4

October 15, 2015 by Amber Filed Under: #projectvintagegem, amber b design, before and after, design, interior design

Welcome back to the final installment of Project Vintage Gem! Today, it’s all about the foyer. My client has a pretty small foyer and we wanted to make it as functional as possible. We wanted to add storage, a place to sit down and a spot for the litter box. You may be worried when you hear that a litter box is going in the main foyer, but no fear… it came out pretty cool and blends right in with the vintage/rustic charm we wanted for her home. Let’s get right to the pictures! It was a tough space to photograph, because of the lack of natural light and compact size. But yet again, Sarah Heppell worked her photography magic!

Heading to the foyer from the living room…

For a quick before and after, here is how the space was when we began…

Before

A hallway with a door open and a green bowl on the floor.

A room with two suitcases and a backpack.

I actually forgot the electric box was on that wall! We strategically hung the mirror there, to cover it up!

A huge credit goes to my client for finding the custom litter box cover on etsy! It really works with the home’s design aesthetic. We always need functional design too, right?!? Thank you all for your encouraging and sweet feedback from this project. It was truly amazing to work on and I am so thankful to my client for allowing me to share this journey on the blog.

Project Vintage Gem – The Reveal Part 1

October 11, 2015 by Amber Filed Under: #projectvintagegem, amber b design, before and after, design

I am so thrilled to be here today, showing you the reveal of #projectvintagegem. You may have seen that hashtag around for quite a while, if you have been following along on instagram {AmberBDesign}. I began working with my client in January, when she asked me for help with her combined living/dining room, master bedroom and foyer. She needed to start fresh and we only kept the dining table, bar stools and bed. The rest is all new! Today’s reveal will be the dining room and the rest of the week will show her gorgeous apartment, one space at a time. She lives in a renovated early 1900’s building with loads of character. The builder decided to leave the exposed brick walls, plumbing pipes and tall ceilings. They added the soft and neutral gray walls, dark wood stained floors and stylish kitchen finishes to bring a modern, yet rustic vibe to these apartments. So let’s get right to it! A huge thank you to my great friend, Nicole, for helping me style the place on photo shoot day. She helped make the day so much fun! The amazing after photography shots are all by the very talented Sarah Heppell Photography. She shows this space in its best possible form. Enjoy!

The building’s landlord was thrilled that this apartment has been designed and is now being photographed, that he wanted to stop by and take a look…

Throughout this week, I will show the living room side, the master bedroom and finally, finish with the foyer. This project has been so much fun and rewarding. I love being able to look back at where we began!

More Updates on #projectvintagegem !!

May 20, 2015 by Amber Filed Under: #projectvintagegem, amber b design, central new york design, interior design

I am excited to show you even more recent updates over at #projectvintagegem. We have busy plugging away, installing items as they arrive and making this house into a home. It is such an amazing feat, getting to see a home from start to finish. When my client moved in, she was starting with a blank slate. Over the several months we have worked together, we have seen her style unfold into a place where she now feels at home. To start back from the beginning for this project, visit HERE. Here are the most recent updates…

In the master bedroom, the rug has arrived, along with the stump side table and new art…

The dresser mirror was also installed last week…

And the sconces are up on either side of the bed…

On the way into the foyer, you can see the new map art, as well as the wine rack vignette…

And the new leather swivel chair arrived in the living room…

Once the sectional and a few other accessories are in place, we will have a full reveal of this home, along with professionally photographed pictures! That part will be so exciting. And I know my client will finally breath a sigh of relief after all of her furniture arrives! She has been so patient through this process.

Thank you to my client for allowing me to share these pictures!

{Partial} Reveal of #projectvintagegem !!

May 8, 2015 by Amber Filed Under: #projectvintagegem, amber b design, central new york design, interior design, local clients

I am so excited to share this partial reveal of #projectvintagegem today!! I went to my client’s house earlier this week, to bring a carload full of accessories and items to style the place up. We are still waiting on a few key pieces before we call this project complete, but I had to share the amazing progress we made. It is always fun to look back at where the project began, so we can see just how much was accomplished so far. You can follow along from the beginning with the link #projectvintagegem or click HERE to see more of the back story of the apartment. Here are the dining and living rooms when I first visited her loft style apartment…

Before

And here is the progress so far…

Progress

Excuse the grainy phone pictures! I promise better quality reveal photos when the project is complete! The buffet zone holds so many of her dishes, which was important with the tight cabinet space in the kitchen. Since we were not able to drill into the brick, I proposed we lean this oversized print on the buffet to ground the zone. I love the juxtaposition of this art with the lamps. The brass candlesticks were an antique find. I love the collected over time feel they bring to the space, even without candles inside. They add a sculptural punch on their own.

To the right of the buffet is the eating area. The new custom banquette has become a favorite spot for my client to sit. The plaid rug is everything in this space. Once the sofa and club chair arrive, you will be able to see the room as a whole and fully appreciate the power of this patterned rug.

This gorgeous console will go behind the sofa, once it arrives. If you follow me on instagram {amberbdesign}, you may have already seen these beautiful blue and white urns I found at Home Goods. This was the project I bought them for!! The small iron and marble table will go next to the leather club chair, once that arrives.

Above, is a little sneak peek of the hallway leading to the foyer. I love the oversized blue map art near the rustic brick!

For the master bedroom, we went for a calm, serene vibe.

Before

The only thing that stayed in the bedroom was the bed. This is a fun transformation, getting to see the design board ideas come to life!

Progress

I hope my client enjoys relaxing in this space! We are still waiting on some items to arrive in here, such as: the dresser mirror, ottoman and side table for the arm chair and bed sconces. I also need to get back over there and finish steaming those linens! I cringe when I see the wrinkled duvet, but I will fix all that. ๐Ÿ™‚ We have come so far, starting with just the bed.

I hope you have enjoyed the partial reveal of #projectvintagegem !! More pictures to come… I promise!

The Design Plans for #projectvintagegem

February 4, 2015 by Amber Filed Under: #projectvintagegem, design, interior design, local clients

I am excited to show you the design plans for #projectvintagegem. My client is very happy with the ideas and ordering items has already begun! With this project, we are working on her foyer, living/dining room and master bedroom. To recap, my client is looking for a home that has a vintage, collected style. She loves mixing woods with metals for an industrial look, which is a perfect style for her historic building with exposed brick walls. Here are the plans, via Amber B Design style…

The Foyer

The Living Room

The Dining Room

The Master Bedroom

I am so excited to see this project through to completion! It has been my pleasure coming up with these design plans and I just love the charm and character of this building. I promise to report the progress along the way!

If you would like to work together, either locally or through e-design, I have openings beginning in April!

Project Farmhouse Gem Reveal!!

October 11, 2018 by Amber Filed Under: #projectfarmhousegem, #projectvintagegem, amber b design, design, interior design, sarah heppell photography

I guess it’s reveal week on the blog! I am thrilled to show you the after photos from Project Farmhouse Gem. You may remember some of these furniture pieces and accessories, as they are from Project Vintage Gem. My client has recently married and moved from her city apartment into a farmhouse. I was asked to come back and design her sunroom in her new home and it was fun to reconnect and see what we could use from the first project. We worked again with the wonderful and amazing Sarah Heppell and had the best time looking back on when we all met. Sarah also photographed my client’s wedding and brought over the new album, so that was such a special day for so many reasons! Let’s get right to the photos, shall we!?!

Current Projects and Inspirations

February 28, 2018 by Amber Filed Under: #projectclassictrad, #projectfarmhousegem, #ProjectRusticModern, #projectvintagegem, amber b design, interior design

Happy almost spring!! I wanted to check in and share some design updates and inspirations since the last time I wrote a post. There are several design projects that are nearing completion. Some we’ve been working on for about a year, so it will be super exciting to show those final reveals. In #ProjectClassicTrad we are almost there! So many great things happened and came together at our most recent install. Please keep in mind these are just quick phone pics and most of the construction materials are still around. There is still art to be hung and pillows to place, but we are super close. I just get so excited, that I love to show the during as much as the reveal!

And over at #ProjectRusticModern the office is ready for its close up! Again, these are just phone pictures…

Do you remember #ProjectVintageGem ??

My client moved from this apartment in the city to a farmhouse in the country! And we’ll be working together again for #ProjectFarmhouseGem to transform her sunroom. Here is the fabric scheme I’m currently thinking about…

The fabric selection is definitely an evolving process, so we’ll see which options make the cut. I am constantly on the hunt for ways to be inspired for projects. These images sum up where I’m at right now…

Tried and True Design Elements

October 27, 2016 by Amber Filed Under: #projectclassicliving, #projectvintagegem, amber b design, design, interior design, kids and design, personal design style, sarah heppell photography

Over the years, I have noticed definite solid design decisions that are always in style. There are some elements in particular, that stand the test of time and become classic must haves for almost any home. As I have been getting completed designs photographed or even when I talk to clients about potential new projects, I have found some recurring topics and accessories discussed time and time again. I have rounded up some of my favorites for you today!

Warm Gray Walls

A dining room with a table and chairs, a mirror and a window.Project Classic Living, Sarah Heppell Photography

Whether they have a tinge of green or blue coming through, a soft gray base wall color is a great jumping off point in a space. It allows the colors and patterns to come through in the accessories or also allows the showstopper to be in the ceiling color or the lighting.

Gourd Table Lamps

Project Vintage Gem, Sarah Heppell Photography

A table with two blue and white stools in front of a mirror.Project Classic Living, Sarah Heppell Photography

Oh my goodness, my love for gourd lamps runs deep! I have even been known to use this style of lamp in more than one room in a design project. I love oversized table lamps with large shades. This style allows you to bring either a neutral or bold base color to the lamp. It also has a nice sculptural shape to it, which helps to bring interest and dimension to a room.

Patterned Rugs

A living room with brick walls and a tableProject Vintage Gem, Sarah Heppell Photography

{There’s another gourd lamp!!} Patterned rugs are a great way to bring an artistic touch to a room. It can bring color and texture to the mix, while also reinforcing your color palette. In this loft space I designed, the blue plaid rug brought in more of the favorite color and also softened the room and design.

Built In Shelving

Design by Studio McGee

Whether this is achieved with a furniture piece or actually built in to the home, the look of custom shelving always takes your room to the next level. I am currently {and always, for that matter} loving the look of white built ins with either a color or grasscloth added to the back of the unit. #beauty

What design elements do you love and feel will always work, even through ever changing design trends?!?
