What I Have Been Pinning Lately

September 30, 2015 by Amber Filed Under: #projectclassicliving, pinterest

Pinterest has a way of bringing me back… all the time. I have found so much inspiration from browsing through it and have also found it extremely helpful with clients. Some clients just need a jump start on ideas for their space, so I create boards to help them with that process. I also love using it to get a sense of the client’s design style. So, here are some images that have caught my eye lately…

A living room with blue walls and yellow furniture.

Bring the wallpaper all the way up, including the vaulted ceiling!

A mirror and wall in a bathroom with blue flowers.

Emily Henderson always gets it right!

A couple of chairs in front of a counter.

I created a bathroom pinterest board for #projectclassicliving and I now have the bathroom remodeling bug!

A bathroom with two sinks and mirrors in it

Lauren Liess designed the new Better Homes and Gardens Innovation Home and it is beautiful!

A living room with a fireplace and a couch

And just an FYI… Lauren’s new design book, Habitat, is available now for pre order! I already ordered mine and I cannot wait for it to arrive!

So that’s all of my inspiration for today… what has inspired you, lately?

Jump Start Your Decorating With a Pinterest Board… A Local Client’s Lake House Project

November 26, 2014 by Amber Filed Under: interior design, local clients, pinterest

I recently had the privilege of meeting with a client who is going through a major gut renovation of her cottage lake house. Her home is nestled on the bay of a beautiful lake. I can just imagine looking out of the windows during the changing of the seasons! What a treat! She hired me to come in and give her a jump start on ideas for her home, so she can hit the ground running. She took advantage of a new local design package that I offer for clients… it’s a style session complete with a pinterest board! We had our initial meeting at the cottage and brainstormed ideas. She came ready with all of her questions and we started to get to solving them right away. Then, I came home and began work on a pinterest board just for her. This board will help her get a start on the decorating process and is complete with specific ideas and inspirations for her to complete her cottage herself, over time. She can click on the product links to take her directly to the site for purchase. I also made specific comments under each image, so she can go back and know exactly why the image was pinned to her board. This is a great design package if you are looking for a designer’s advice, but you primarily want to accomplish the work yourself over time. My client told me she wanted to hear that her ideas were valid and also wanted the answers to some of the questions that had puzzled her about her home. Here is what the cottage looked like when I visited…

The main entrance is the door to the right

This is an antique mantel that will be used

There will be built ins on either side of the fireplace

Amidst all of the renovation, there sits a little potted plant I brought to give to my client. I always like to come with a small gift in hand.  ๐Ÿ™‚

This will be the serving counter and dining area

I love all of the windows and natural light!

This was my first time seeing a project from the ground up like this and I was so excited! The part that made me the most excited was the fact that I could envision this cottage complete. That was such an amazing feeling to walk around and tell her where the furniture should go and how the layout will flow throughout the main floor. This visit, we tackled everything from a wall color scheme to furniture placement, counter finishes, etc. We covered so much during that session. I then came home and got to work on the pinterest board.
Since my client wanted to tackle this project herself over time, this style session/pinterest board design package was perfect for her. It gave her a start on the process and encouragement to move forward with some of her ideas and many new ones from myself. Here is a glimpse into her pinterest board and the direction we will take with this cottage lake house…

My client is excited to move forward and is so happy about the design vision. She is also a pinner to this board, so she can add and edit the board over time. To see the rest of the board, visit my pinterest page HERE.

Some Pinspiration For You…

August 18, 2013 by Amber Filed Under: design, personal design style, pinterest

I have been on pinterest quite a bit lately, pinning my heart away! Every time I’m on there, I am all over the map… pinning images of beautiful bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms, ideas for clients, etc. I thought I would share some of my favorites lately! Enjoy!

Clean and simple, but so chic. I could repaint my dining chairs!

via
This dining room is soft, a bit feminine and has those gorgeous wishbone style chairs!
via
Back to back sofas would be cool in a large space! It can separate the rooms into different zones for different purposes. This room also has my favorite color palette and is designed by the very talented Christina Murphy!
via

Love this wallpaper… have to use it somewhere!
via
This kitchen is pretty much perfection in my eyes. And notice how they mix metals… brass lanterns paired with chrome faucets?!? Don’t be afraid to try and mix your metals!
via

I love this color palette and space! And notice how there is nothing on the wall above the bed? With a pretty wallpaper like this, it’s not needed!
via

A great way to style around the TV!
via
Yep, all over the map! But at least with it all on my boards, it’s organized chaos!  ; ) Follow me HERE to see some my latest favorites.

A Great New Source for Pillows

June 3, 2013 by Amber Filed Under: accessories, design, etsy, pillows, pinterest

I am always on the hunt for new pillow sources, as they are one of my favorite accessories to change in a room. When browsing pinterest, I found this new to me etsy shop, Studio Tullia. Suzanne, the shop owner, creates gorgeous pillow cases with trendy and classic prints that would work in anyone’s home. Here’s a little sample of what you will find in her amazing shop…

Gorgeous, right?? Suzanne’s pillows can be sold individually or as a pair. I love all of these patterns! Her prices are very affordable and the pillow cases come with invisible zipper enclosure, serged seams, etc. All the good stuff! So, that’s my two cents for the day. Stop by her shop and see what else she has! If you make a purchase, send me a picture when it’s in your space. I would love to include it in a blog post!
Happy Monday!

Some Pins I Am Loving

March 12, 2013 by Amber Filed Under: design, inspiration, personal design style, pinterest, style

I have been pinning like crazy on pinterest! There is so much great inspiration out there, so I thought I would put together a little collection of my recent finds, ideas I want to try and all time favorites.

Here we go…

via

If there’s space in your living room, I love the idea of adding a console behind the sofa that doubles as a desk. Even better, using inexpensive materials to achieve the look. This looks like they used plumbing pipes to make the desk legs. I hope to make bookshelves with a similar look for our home. More on that later…

via
In the right space, I love dark, moody walls. It looks like this bedroom gets a lot of natural light and has a great balance of creamy white, to tone down the dark walls. I will go moody and dark in our office this spring. This color to be exact!
via
I have admired industrial style chairs like these for a while! Nicole’s dining room is fabulous, and there are so many amazing elements in this room. I love the balance of the metal with the wood. This is the plan for our kitchen someday!
via
This bedroom is both stunning and casual! I love symmetry in bedroom design, and this styling has it down to perfection! I am doing some similar styling for a client’s bedroom, and this is great inspiration. I am also loving bird art at the moment, and these whimsical framed prints are beautiful in this space.
via
How sweet is the above image?!? I used a similar idea for a client’s dining room table, and I might just have to do this myself. When my mom and I head out to the antique fest this summer, I will be on the hunt for vintage glasses and vases to recreate this look! It’s simple, can be inexpensive, and you can use greenery from your yard! I feel a new dining table centerpiece coming on!
So that’s my inspiration for the week! Any great finds lately??

I Guess I Am Social!

August 9, 2011 by Amber Filed Under: pinterest, twitter

It’s long overdue… but I have finally joined pinterest! I know it will be addicting, just like blogging- what did I get myself into?? You can find me on pinterest by searching “sdwellings” or going directly to the link on my sidebar. I have already started to create 2 boards, and I love it! I know I will appreciate the organization of it all when I am looking for something specific. And in order to sign up for pinterest, I also signed up for twitter! On Twitter, you can find me @SDwellings – at least I think you can. Bear with me- I’m still trying to figure this all out. So, there we have it- I guess I am now social!

How about you- are you on Pinterest or Twitter? Any advice for a newbie, like myself??
