This is Happening…

We are undergoing some renovations around here! This is the first time that we have changed our house in a big way. Let’s see if you can guess what we are doing, with these inspiration pictures…

You might have guessed it… we’re finishing our basement! We are so excited and ready for it all to begin. I have big plans for this space. I plan to get the walls painted a very pale blue gray, almost white color. We don’t get a lot of natural light down there, so that will help to brighten up the space. Also, we are going to install shelving for the space under the stairs. I showed the contractor the 6th image above {gotta love pinterest} and it will happen! I would also like a huge chalkboard wall. I have always loved that look! Also, we are installing industrial style shelving, like the last image above. It’s a cost effective way to have about 10 feet of shelving, using wood boards, plumbing conduit and gas pipes. Materials alone, that idea costs only $200, and I love the result! That just might be my favorite aspect of this design! More on that idea later. This is pretty big for us, since we have never had any major renovation work done in the house before. I will make sure to take before pictures, so you can see the concrete jungle that it is now! That will be quite the before and after.

Have you finished your basement?? Any tips, ideas to avoid??

Great inspiration! The first photo is gorgeous and I love the fun vibe of the 3rd one. We have a finished basement but it looks NOTHING like those! – I wish! The biggest problem with mine is the complete lack of natural light. Only half of our basement is finished and it just happens to be the side without windows because all the vents and things hang too low on the window side…great planning. Anyway, I love your ideas. Shelving and storage is the most important thing I think, especially if you use the space as a kids' playroom. I need to add more. Looks like you have some great plans and I can't wait to see your end result!

Good luck on your project. I'm sure it will be great. I recently did a post on our basement which we finished last year (link below) and the one thing we did that made a big difference was to incorporate great mill work (crown moldings, nice door frames, etc…) It really elevated the space from feeling like a regular basement and made it feel more like the rest of the house.

Now that the ladder has been relocated to the family room, this corner is definitely in need of some height. I almost went with the idea of a tree and while I love it in other homes, I just didn’t see it here. So I went on Pinterest in search of inspiration and @studiomcgee to the rescue! I love the idea of a pedestal with a vase and maybe some branches, instead of a tree. I can switch up the accessories on the pedestal and I think it’s the winner! Inspiration in the next slide. #amberbdesignathome #coastalliving

This year, we had it to the left of the television and I really feel like that space is now so empty. I tried the living room ladder in its place and I love it! But the living room needs it there too. What to do?! Maybe a tall plant in one of the spaces?! Two ladders within feet of each other?! 😂 #amberbdesignathome #coastalliving #howyouhome #SMmakelifebeautiful #loveyourhabitat #bhghome
