What a Place!

December 6, 2011 by Amber Filed Under: great design

When I was browsing through the elle decor look book, I came across this beautiful getaway retreat that I had to share. This home was decorated by Ray Booth. Every room in this home is amazing, restrained, casual, chic and just beautiful. I hope you love it as much as I do:

Decoration mode is in full swing around here! I am feeling more motivated and love to see all of the holiday decor back out in the home. I came across this picure recently and love the rustic, beautiful way this mantle is styled.

I love the garland around the top of the mirror, the white brick on the fireplace and the beautiful check pillows- it all works so well together! The simplicity of the fruit works so well with the gorgeous and dramatic garland.

Deck the Halls – The Living Room

December 2, 2011 by Amber Filed Under: deck the halls

The holiday season is upon us, and the decorations are making their way out of the basement and back into their proper seasonal spot! I am moving at a snail’s pace this year, so I started with the extra ball ornaments and will hopefully gain more momentum from there. I think it’s fun to use ornaments in different places around your home, instead of just the tree. There are so many places to show a little holiday cheer- why not spread the love in different nooks and spaces in your home! In my living room, I have placed some ornaments in glass containers, candle holders and even on books!

The holiday touches in this vignette are minimal but add a subtle, festive flair to the room! The pillow basket has the addition of a gold throw, because I love to use some silver and gold in my holiday decor. The tray on the dresser is adorned with my Country Living holiday coffee table book and glittery and shiny ornaments placed inside a glass container. I even added a few on the book for a touch of whimsy!

Another spot in our living room also has some new holiday cheer!

This secretary desk also has been adorned with more ball ornaments and festive decor! My nutcracker, covered in silver and gold sits on a coffe table book, with a single glitter ornament tucked inside a glass candle holder. My candlestick lamp shade has been replaced with a festive red and green plaid. And a larger glass container sits on the secretary desk, filled with more ornaments! A watercolor print from Laura Trevey also joins the holiday decor, because of its beautiful blend of colors, including red and green!

Much more holiday decorating to come… stay tuned!

Linking this post up to Courtney, from A Thoughtful Place. She definitely helped me get motivated to decorate with this month’s link party!

What I’ll Be Doing This Week…

November 29, 2011 by Amber Filed Under: deck the halls, holiday

It’s about that time to start taking out the bows, ribbons, wreaths and all the trimmings! I am starting a new series later this week, called Deck The Halls! Every week leading up to Christmas, I will feature a spot in my home that is all ready for the holiday season. (This will be a great motivator for me, as I seem to put things off!) These are the things I am thinking about for this week, via pinterest:

Over the years, I have decorated our home similar to these ideas above. This might be a little ambitious for the week, but I am (hopefully) up for the challenge! Wish me luck!

Have you added any holiday decor yet? I would love to hear about it!!

Guest Posting at Dot Coms for Moms

I am super excited to be over at a wonderful site, Dot Comes for Moms, sharing some fun and simple ways to decorate for the holidays. This amazing site brings the best of the web to women, moms and all who appreciate home decor, cooking, health, beauty and more. I was so honored when they asked me to write an article about holiday decorating ideas. I decided to pick a theme that we can all appreciate: simple and easy decorating ideas, but with a twist– I thought it would be fun to try and think outside the box and use holiday decorations in unconventional ways! I know that I love ideas that are fast and stylish! I was able to find so much inspiration and beautiful decor ideas through pinterest. I am now ready to start decorating! Check out the post here.

Accessories – The Final Touch

November 22, 2011 by Amber Filed Under: accessories and vignettes

Since I started my blog last January, I have a newfound appreciation for accessories. There are so many great ideas out there for shelf styling, creating small vignettes and styling in general! I used to focus primarily on the larger pieces in the room, such as all of the furniture. Although that’s extremely important as well, the accessories bring the space together, making the room look polished and unique. I thought I would share my favorite accessory groupings from pinterest, and then show some of my own that I have been working on in our home! So here goes:

And here are my attempts at accessory styling in our home:

It’s fun to mix different styles and patterns when grouping accessories. I also love the look of a large collection grouped together- it makes the accessories look cohesive and pulled together!

How do you group your accessories??
