If My Blog Was A Room – Next Up – The Passionate Peony

July 19, 2012 by Amber Filed Under: blog room series

Happy Thursday and welcome to the series If My Blog Was A Room… where I pose the challenge to think of your blog as an actual space. What would that space look like? I am excited to have Genevieve (love that name!) here, from her blog, The Passionate Peony. Genevieve is brand new to blogging and is off to a great start. She blogs about art, design and fashion and has beautiful taste! Here is her blog header:

And here is what she came up with…

Hello readers! I’m Genevieve from The Passionate Peony. In the past, when asked to define my style, I never knew what on earth to say. Maybe hollywood regency? Or perhaps vintage chic? Well, after hours of looking through the rooms that I was the most drawn to, trying to come up with a signature style for my blog, I had a little epiphany: every single room that caught my eye had a hint of glitzy metallics (yup, I’m like a magpie..) ! So, if my blog were a room, that room would be decorated in a style I like to call “feminine glamour”. Hope you enjoy these gorgeous rooms!

So happy to have been a part of Simple Dwellings, and a big thanks to Amber for having me! Hugs and Kisses, Genevieve

Thanks for being here, Genevieve! These rooms are amazing, glamourous and very chic! I have also been drawn to gold accents lately, and these rooms do it up well! Definitely stop by Genevieve’s blog and show her some love!  ๐Ÿ™‚

Here is her pretty blog header:

And here is what she came up with…

If this blog were a room, it would definitely be filled with chandeliers, lots of gold, lovely silks, a bit of French country, hits of pink, glamour, Louis Chairs, a bit of Kitsch, an animal or two, some florals, sophistication and a whole lot of chic! Whew!

Hope everyone is having a great week. Welcome to the series If My Blog Was A Room… where I pose the challenge to think of your blog as an actual space. What would that space look like? You’re in for a treat today with our guest blogger! I am excited to have Sue here, from her design blog The Zhush. I have been following Sue’s blog since I began my own and it’s easy to get hooked! Sue has impeccable design taste and also has an amazing on line shop, which you can check out here. This is Sue’s blog header:

And here is what she came up with for you-

Hi! I’m Sue from The Zhush.  This series is a lot of fun, and for me it was a “no brainer” as I knew immediately what room I would choose…Eve Robinson’s purple kitchen from the New York Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse has reminded me of my blog from the moment I first laid eyes on it.  Between the light fixture and the colors, this room just speaks to me! Of course, I would also have to include my own little home office here in the mix as well.  The colors in this tiny room make me so happy!  Thanks Amber for having me over today!

Thanks so much for being here today, Sue! I love that gorgeous purple kitchen and your home office. They both say stylish, fun and you. And I could get definitely accomplish some serious blogging and work in your beautiful office space! To check out more of Sue’s stylish blog, go here.

If My Blog Was A Room – Next Up – The Little Black Door

Happy Wednesday and welcome to the series If My Blog Was A Room… where I pose the challenge to think of your blog as an actual space. What would that space look like? I am so excited to have Elizabeth here, from her design blog The Little Black Door. I found Elizabeth’s blog recently and I’m hooked! I love her witty sense of humor and amazing before and afters of her beautiful home. She also came up with this cool gallery wall idea, where she adds frames and art to a corner of a room. I love how it turned out, and you’ll just have to stop by her blog to see it! Without further adieu, here is Elizabeth’s blog header-

And here is what she came up with-

Hi everybody! I’m Elizabeth from The Little Black Door. I was thrilled when Amber asked me to participate in the ‘If my blog was a room’ series because I play this game all the time (with myself). Now that I get to actually share with others, I don’t even know where to begin! I am consistently bi-polar when it comes to my styles. On the outside, I prefer something very old and very traditional. With a lot of land (of course) – an estate I guess you could say. Ahh, to dream.

Westover Plantation Virginia

Inside though I’m all about cozy (like I said – bipolar). I like rooms that have slowly accumulated over time. Rooms that feel layered.

I  love books and some killer styling as well. Styling is so very challenging to me, so I always appreciate a job well done.

So that’s my blog in a room(s) –  Color, pattern, humor and a well mixed cocktail! Thanks for having me Amber, this was a lot of fun!

Elizabeth, this was amazing! I love what you came up with. The stenciled walls and that striped settee in the foyer- wow! Rooms that have color, pattern and personality are so important and fun! These colorful, cheerful interiors definitely remind me of your blog!  ๐Ÿ™‚
Stop by Elizabeth’s blog and say hello! You’ll be hooked too.

If My Blog Was A Room – Next Up – Maple Leaves and Sycamore Trees

May 30, 2012 by Amber Filed Under: blog room series

Happy Wednesday and welcome to the series If My Blog Was A Room… where I pose the challenge to think of your blog as an actual space. What would that space look like? I am excited to have Kat here, from her blog Maple Leaves & Sycamore Trees. I love stopping by Kat’s blog to see her latest antique and thrift store finds. She has a great eye and has amazing DIY skills! So without further adieu, here is what Kat came up with-

Hey guys! I’m Kat from Maple Leaves & Sycamore Trees, and I’m excited to be over here sharing some of my favorite spaces, so thanks, Amber, for having me. If my blog were a room (or rooms!), it’d have a relaxed, casual feel just like some of these spaces. First let’s start with the exterior. I love a home that’s not humongous and has nice details–like working shutters, differing facades, picket fences, and detailed trim work.

I love the green door on this simple house. It’s all in the little details!

Now let’s go inside and start at the heart of the home: the kitchen. What I love in these kitchens are the different finishes, antique rugs, and that little bit of vintage industrial flair.

The lighting in this kitchen is great, isn’t it?

If you haven’t checked out For the Love of a House blog yet, you’re in for a real treat. I love just about everything in Joan’s house including her gorgeous kitchen.

Source: fortheloveofahouse.blogspot.com via Kat on Pinterest

We just redid our kitchen (well actually, it’s still a work in progress:/) and there wasn’t any room for open shelving. I do love the look though. Look at how pretty these shelves are!

I have a soft spot in my heart for unique lighting. Love these wall sconces.

Source: houzz.com via Kat on Pinterest

Perfect styling: those old jars, a chippy sign, and subway tile…yum.

Source: justinetaylor.tumblr.com via Kat on Pinterest

These wood shelves add a nice warmth to this white kitchen. (Oh and that’s another look I love–paneled walls. Can’t get enough of them! Psst…we’re putting some in our renovated bathroom!!)

Can you tell that kitchens are my favorite room in the house? Okay, I better move on before you wanna fix yourself a sandwich. Dining rooms:

I’d love to have a dinner party around this rustic farm table. It has such a non-fussy, organic look to it.
Source: sundayinbed.tumblr.com via Kat on Pinterest

Here’s an eclectic dining room with fun wall art and a bookcase. This would be a great solution for a room that must do double duty. (BTW, do you love settees at dining tables as much as I do? Ah…LOVE that look!)

Source: Uploaded by user via Kat on Pinterest

This “dining room” looks like it’s part of an open floor plan where each room flows into the next. Talk about great for entertaining.

Some sort of display storage is necessary (in my book) in a dining room. Love this piece with the white dishes stacked casually but neatly inside.

And the last room I’ll cover today is the living room: cozy, inviting, and down-to-earth–all characteristics that I hope you sense from my blog.

Love all the texture in this room.

Thanks again, Amber, for having me. It was fun sharing some of my favorite spaces! Hope you guys can stop by Maple Leaves & Sycamore Trees sometime and check out the renovations going on around our place.

Thank you so much for being here, Kat! Rustic spaces, unique lighting and subway tile… gotta love them all! And I can’t wait to see the paneled walls in your bathroom- love that look. For great DIY’s, unique finds and design chat, stop by Kat’s blog here.

If My Blog Was A Room – Next Up – The Peak of Tres Chic

May 23, 2012 by Amber Filed Under: blog room series

Happy Wednesday and welcome to the series If My Blog Was A Room… where I pose the challenge to think of your blog as an actual space. What would that space look like? I am so excited to have Sam here, from her design blog, The Peak of Tres Chic. Sam has a great eye for design and has embarked on an interior decorating career of her own this year. She loves ikat prints, traveling and anything French, so I think we would get along very well!  ๐Ÿ™‚ Here is her gorgeous blog header:

Isn’t it great?? And here is what she came up with! Take it away, Sam!

Hi Simple Dwellings readers!  My name is Sam and I am the editor of The Peak of Tres Chic, a blog focused on chic interior and fashion design, with a little entertaining mixed in.  Creating a room that represents my blog was such a fun challenge, and I am so excited to be sharing what I came up with.  I have often defined my blog in an outfit, but never in a room.

Here’s what I think The Peak of Tres Chic would look like:

{via}
I love the drama of the black accent wall juxtaposed by the large amount of light streaming through the windows.  The tufted gray headboard, luxe X benches at the bottom of the bed, and the Louis Vuitton coffee table book all add glam touches that fit within my blog’s vibe.
To give you a better idea of what that vibe is, here’s my blog’s reciepe:
Recipe for The Peak of Tres Chic:
3 parts old Hollywood glamour
2 parts Parisian muse
1 part preppy school girl
a dash of 70s bohemian
garnished with sparkles on top
And I happen to think this room fits perfectly within that mix of ingredients.  Thanks for having me, Amber!  I so enjoyed guest blogging today.  XOXO, Sam

Thanks so much for being here today, Sam! I love what you came up with- tufted wing back headboards are so gorgeous! And those herringbone floors?!? This room is perfection to me. Stop by and say hello to Sam at her blog here!

If My Blog Was A Room – Next Up – Nikki’s Nacs

Happy Wednesday and welcome to the series If My Blog Was A Room… where I pose the challenge to think of your blog as an actual space. What would that space look like? I am excited to have Nikki here, from her decor blog Nikki’s Nacs. Nikki has great style and shows creative DIY projects on her blog. I also had fun participating in her series 2 Bills 2 Blow, where I had the challenge to come up with decor ideas for my home after stumbling upon an extra $200! It was a very fun problem to think about! Without further adieu, here is what Nikki came up with for her blog room:

Thank you Amber, for including me in this fun series, and hello to all of you. I am Nikki from the blog nikki’s nacs.

I blog about life as wife and mommy, decorating, cooking, cleaning, crafting and organizing. That’s a lot of stuff. I knew that my blog would best be represented by a kitchen, the heart of our home.

If my blog were a room it would have to be this kitchen and dining room from Southern Living . The colors are just right , and it’s simple but still full of detail. I think I notice something new every time I look at this kitchen.

Thanks so much, Nikki! I absolutely love this space! It is bright, cheerful, and who doesn’t love white kitchen cabinets?!? I could linger here for hours with a nice cup of coffee. And this soft green gets me very excited for spring! To check out Nikki’s blog and say hello, visit here!

If My Blog Was A Room – Next Up – Hodge Podge

Happy Wednesday and welcome to the series If My Blog Was A Room… where I pose the challenge to think of your blog as an actual space. What would that space look like? I am very excited to have Barbara here, from her design blog Hodge Podge. Barbara has a great eye for design and has completed some amazing and creative DIY projects on her blog. While also being very talented, she makes her readers feel as if they have known her for years! She has a way of making you feel right at home, like chatting about design with a good friend! Her is her pretty blog header:

And here is what she came up with!

Thanks Amber for inviting to participate in this exciting series, If My Blog Were A Room. I thought it would be easy to pick a few a photos and be done with it, but it was hard to choose.
But first when you come in you would be greeted by a juicy red door, amazing geometric tiled floor, and gorgeous art.

Anyone who reads my blog knows I have a love for stripes, especially black and white with a little thrown in.
So you would be wowed by my striped walls, red console table and eclectic art collection.
Apartment Therapy
But my blog is a collection of ideas so a bookcase full of books would be just the ticket.
Emily A. Clarke
My blog is also a collection of pretty and inspiring photos, so a gallery wall would be found wrapping around the hallway.

But there is always a little pretty with a bicycle thrown in.

And a comfy chair will be needed to sit on when reading my blog and others.

Hope you can sit and stay a while!
Thanks Amber for having me!
XO Barbara

Thanks so much for being here, Barbara! I absolutely love what you came up with! I also love seeing stripes on the wall and that beautiful wing chair fabric from Country Living is amazing! I also thought it was so creative to show a bookcase in your post, because your blog is full of ideas. I love that! This all definitely reminds me of your creative blog. Stop by and say hello to Barbara!
After visiting Hodge Podge, stop by Nikki’s blog, Nikki’s Nacs to see my guest post! The challenge was to think about how I would spend $200 for home decor after recently stumbling upon the extra money. Sounds like a fun challenge to me!

If My Blog Was A Room – Next Up – A Room With A View

Happy Wednesday and welcome to the series If My Blog Was A Room… where I pose the challenge to think of your blog as an actual space. What would that space look like? I am excited to have Lisa here, from her design blog A Room With A View. I enjoy Lisa’s blog and approach to decorating, because she likes to blend different design styles and make them work together, while also incorporating items from her travels! I think that is a great way to approach design! Here is her blog header:

And here is the amazing post Lisa came up with!

Thank you, Amber, for inviting me to contribute to this fun series. My blog is called, A Room With A View. If one were to take the name of my blog literally, and if my blog were a room I would love to have a large window or french doors of some sort with a ton of natural light and a great view.

It would be an elegant yet relaxing and casual room, eclectic with a global vibe and stylish at the same time. An inviting space where anyone would feel very welcome and would want to stay a while. The view, the furnishings and accessories would lend inspiration to all.
The pictures that follow have some of the elements my room would have.

Natural light, and a view or access to the outdoors. Here, the perfect relaxing window seat.

or a perfect, serene view like this.

In these eclectic spaces I like the mix of styles and colors, the accessories, built-in shelves, books and magazines and pillows.

I would love a fireplace.

Natural light, flowers, pattern mix.

Low seating, architectural interest (the beams), more pillows!

Magnificent built-in bookshelf and ladder.

I would pick a pretty color for the walls. I am into shades of grey at the moment so perhaps one of these from Benjamin Moore – Misty Memories or Winter Gray. Either would be a great backdrop to the colors in everything else.

Here is a collage of the main items I would love to incorporate in this space. Sources listed at end of post.

This collage showcases the accessories which will further warm up the room.

A gallery wall with tons of pictures.

If My Blog Was A Room – Next Up – The Designer Lifestyle

February 8, 2012 by Amber Filed Under: blog room series

Happy Wednesday and welcome to the series If My Blog Was A Room… where I pose the challenge to think of your blog as an actual space. What would that space look like? I am so excited to have Tiffany here, from her design blog The Designer Lifestyle. Tiffany is new to blogging and I’ve enjoyed reading her posts and meeting a new blog friend! Here is what she came up with-

Hello!
I’m Tiffany from The Designer Lifestyle and I’m so honoured and excited to be a part of this fun series here on Simple Dwellings! As a fairly new blogger, I’m
loving ways to connect with the design blogging community.Thank you for having me!

When I first started brainstorming about what my blog would look like if it
were a room, I knew immediately that it would be A BEDROOM. I do most of my blogging from my bed, and I also like to think of my blog as a place for myself and readers alike to unwind and relax after a long day.

Here is my header ^. As a cue of inspiration from it, my blog bedroom would most definitely need a beautiful mirrored vanity like the one drawn in my header.  While my blog has an emphasis on interior design, I also feature some fashion and beauty, both of which take place in the bedroom as you get ready in the morning! A vanity like this can also double as a desk ๐Ÿ™‚

via

As for the fashion aspect, the room would definitely need a gorgeous walk in closet (a girl can dream right?)

via

In terms of the bedding itself, the duvet would be a crisp white like the text box of my blog. Caitlin Wilson Textiles offer up the perfect throw cushions for my blog bedroom. That geometric turquoise one in the front is almost an exact match to the background of my blog, and the coral colours match my title and links font!

via

It would also require a beautiful upholstered headboard for reading and blogging from bed! I love the nail head and tufted details of the following example:

via

My blog is essentially my place to post all of my inspiration, and so the room would absolutely NEED a large inspiration board!

via

Lastly, I’d incorporate fun, trendy and colorful accessories to
represent my personality that I inject into each post. My taste is pretty
eclectic, nothing too matchy-matchy, just a collection of beautiful
things.

I’ve put together a board of what the room might end up looking like to bring it all together:

I hope you enjoyed reading about my blog’s room as much as I enjoyed putting it together! A big thank you to Amber for having me! Please stop by The Designer Lifestyle and stay awhile! Have a wonderful day xox

Thanks so much for being here, Tiffany! I love what you came up with- this would make a fabulous room! Tufted headboards and the beautiful color combination of turqouise and coral would make a lovely, restful retreat, in my book! Definitely stop by Tiffany’s blog and welcome her to blogging!
